Album Review: Mount Eerie A Crow Looked At Me



In 2014 Phil Elverum who performs as Mount Eerie and his Wife Genevieve both released albums and welcomed their first child. The following year Genvieve was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and by the next summer, she had passed. Now raising a child on his own, he had no choice but go on. He started seeing a grief counselor for help with coping, two months later the counselor passed away. If I went through that, I would spend most of my days in the fetal position, but Elverum set out and wrote a new album.
The album "A Crow Looked At Me" is a personal and low-fi affair. A stand out line about shopping is funny and sorrowful. "I now wield the power to transform a grocery store aisle into a canyon of pity and confusion and mutual aching to leave?"
More of a spoken word biography with music, this album is beautiful and deserves a listen. Not a rollicking affair to listen while driving, best left for Sunday morning where there is time to absorb every word.

...But we are sick too and you are our parents; get up and take care of us!

Howdy Folks I am back from the dead and want to apologize ahead of time; I have several posts that I will be putting out in the next day or so and this is going to be long.  I was pretty sick there for a couple of weeks and could think of things to write but just couldn't muster up the energy to type (whaaa, I am such a baby when I am sick). It started out with Liam getting sick about a month ago.  After he had got better, he came and showed me a patch of red rash in the middle of his back.  I didn't think much of it, but by the next morning, it had gotten bigger, so we went to the clinic.  Well, a trip to the pediatrician and then a dermatologist and pediatric derm and finds out the kid has shingles.   Is he Ten years old or Seventy?  It spread from his back to the front of his chest, in his armpit and down his arms to his finger.  Thank god it was Liam though, he didn't complain once, and my boy took it like a champ. Insult to injury or is it???

I have been sick for two days, my body aches and I feel like I will never be better.  Living the stereotypical Irish catholic wreckage of the future. Being sick and laying down all you have time to do is think and the topic of late revolves around my waning days of my 40's.  I have the big 50 coming up, is that old anymore?  Can I buy into 50 is the new 40 load of horseshit?   Can I still have dreams or is that all gone and now,  do I really need to act my age.  What the hell does that even mean?? Well, I guess it means I should open my mail at least, that seems like a responsible thing to do. Sweet Jesus on a stick!  AARP??? Really??
