Mother - Grandmother - Godmother I was hanging with the boys watching something on TV. It was probably a comic book before it was a show, every half decent program out there on TV/cable/Netflix was started by Marvel or DC They got to be running out of comic book concepts to steal from soon right? Someone's going to have to get creative out in Hollywood. We need Norman Lear and Gary Marshall to jump back in the game. I think one might have passed away So Dignan asks "What are you getting Mom for mother's day"? I said. "Me? Nothing." Liam: "why not?" Me: "well, she is not MY mother." Dignan: "I don't know. We hear you getting yelled at ; you get in trouble more than we do! Me: "well yes but sometimes she needs to inspire me. I tend to like sitting, but that’s about all she does." Dignan: "are you allowed to wear a baseball hat to the dinner table?" Me: "well no but...” Liam: and vegetables...

Album Review: Mount Eerie A Crow Looked At Me

Image
In 2014 Phil Elverum who performs as Mount Eerie and his Wife Genevieve both released albums and welcomed their first child. The following year Genvieve was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and by the next summer, she had passed. Now raising a child on his own, he had no choice but go on. He started seeing a grief counselor for help with coping, two months later the counselor passed away. If I went through that, I would spend most of my days in the fetal position, but Elverum set out and wrote a new album. The album "A Crow Looked At Me" is a personal and low-fi affair. A stand out line about shopping is funny and sorrowful. " I now wield the power to transform a grocery store aisle into a canyon of pity and confusion and mutual aching to leave? " More of a spoken word biography with music, this album is beautiful and deserves a listen. Not a rollicking affair to listen while driving, best left for Sunday morning where there is time to absorb ev...

These are things you should never call an Irish American....

I have been sick for two days, my body aches and I feel like I will never be better.  Living the stereotypical Irish catholic wreckage of the future. Being sick and laying down all you have time to do is think and the topic of late revolves around my waning days of my 40's.  I have the big 50 coming up, is that old anymore?  Can I buy into 50 is the new 40 load of horseshit?   Can I still have dreams or is that all gone and now,  do I really need to act my age.  What the hell does that even mean?? Well, I guess it means I should open my mail at least, that seems like a responsible thing to do. Sweet Jesus on a stick!  AARP??? Really?? People think I am funny, but really it is some cosmic joker who arranges these things in my life so that the jokes write themselves. Well, NO F'ING WAY.  I ain't doing it, I certainly am not retiring anytime soon, if ever!   So what is the sense? Then........ Movie discou...

...But we are sick too and you are our parents; get up and take care of us!

Howdy Folks I am back from the dead and want to apologize ahead of time; I have several posts that I will be putting out in the next day or so and this is going to be long.  I was pretty sick there for a couple of weeks and could think of things to write but just couldn't muster up the energy to type (whaaa, I am such a baby when I am sick). It started out with Liam getting sick about a month ago.  After he had got better, he came and showed me a patch of red rash in the middle of his back.  I didn't think much of it, but by the next morning, it had gotten bigger, so we went to the clinic.  Well, a trip to the pediatrician and then a dermatologist and pediatric derm and finds out the kid has shingles.   Is he Ten years old or Seventy?  It spread from his back to the front of his chest, in his armpit and down his arms to his finger.  Thank god it was Liam though, he didn't complain once, and my boy took it like a champ. The...

It's just like my Grandmother always said........

...if you are going to lose a body part in an industrial accident,  do it in Nevada! Here is a graph from the journalistic site ProPublica.  They were doing a piece on rising workman's comp costs despite lowering rate of accident.  They did a survey of the rate of return per missing body part, Nevada and the Federal Government are far and away the best paydays in the system. It was disturbing to see the incredibly lower return on a lost testicle.  Of the 10 reporting WC agencies, the highest was the Fed at $98k and the lowest was Minnesota at $3k.  I am not sure how I would react to a $3k check for being lopsided.

Here is a post from a couple years ago.  I am going to start a side page with past posts...as soon as I figure out how to do that. We went birthday shopping for mommy last night with the kids. They settled on this very pretty shawl. They were disappointed when I told them it was a Christmas tree skirt.
